A first encounter with the city, its history and its secrets.
If this is your first time in Copenhagen, or you would like to get to know the old town, this walk is a lovely way to begin exploring the Danish capital.
We will walk from City Hall to the famous Nyhavn harbour, peek into cosy courtyards, wander along historic streets and talk about kings, legends, traditions and everyday life in Denmark.
Along the way, you will hear stories about Hans Christian Andersen, local beliefs and the intriguing little details that are so easy to walk past without noticing.
Copenhagen City Hall
The historic squares of Gammel Torv and Nytorv
The Caritas Fountain — one of the city’s oldest fountains
Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke). If you would like to, we can step inside when it is open
Magstræde — one of Copenhagen’s most picturesque old streets
Christiansborg, home to the Danish Parliament
The National Museum of Denmark and Højbro Plads, where we will meet the statue of the city’s founder, Bishop Absalon
Kongens Nytorv (King’s New Square) and Nyhavn (New Harbour)
At the end of the walk, you will find yourself right in the heart of Copenhagen. I will be happy to suggest where to go next, what to try and which places are worth exploring on your own.
